Charlene received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago. She painted expressively colored portraits and made a variety of crafts. Then family priorities left little time for painting. After the sudden death of her husband, the process of mourning and healing led her back to her love of painting where she found new inspiration in nature.
Captivated by chaos, intermingled parts, twisted and distorted in various stages of life, Charlene seeks beauty in the imperfections that naturally occur in the diversity of our environment. She explores from afar and up close, capturing images with a camera from various angles, above and under. With these images, she enlarges and manipulates. Working with watercolor and pastels her interpretations are sometimes representative, sometimes abstract. Through collages made from her paintings, she decontextualizes and reconstructs.
